Mine activities and miner populations change continuously. Mine safety planning can meet this challenge by ensuring mine workers have access to a refuge chamber until rescue personnel arrive.

  • Identify risks
  • Evaluate your sources of breathable air and
  • Determine your refuge chamber needs

Review your refuge chamber needs every six months to determine if they have changed.

  • Does your current supply of breathable air still fit your needs?
  • Do your underground personnel receive regular training and updates on the effective use of breathable air sources?
  • Do you have sufficient oxygen and carbon dioxide adsorbent in your refuge chamber to meet the rescue times in your rescue plan?
