A Client's Story.
Our clients regularly comment on the exceptional service and the care, dedication and respect that RANA shows them. This is the story of one such client.
A client was recently discharged from hospital and needed oxygen. He wanted to remain independent but had added challenges of being legally blind, and deaf. Up to this point he has participated in the activities and life at his residence, including sharing in the meals in the common dining room three times a day. The client and his daughter both thought that being on oxygen meant that this would not be possible any longer.
While the client was still in hospital, a RANA Client Service Coordinator arranged for a consultation with the family, a RANA technician and Respiratory Therapist to discuss the oxygen system options and capabilities. The Respiratory Therapist also visited the client’s apartment to assess the space. The Respiratory Therapist established an optimal location for the oxygen equipment, and met with staff of the residence to review and establish a routine for meal times. In consultation with staff and family, it was determined that small oxygen cylinders was the most appropriate system to utilize in the dining room.
With the client’s apartment ready for the oxygen equipment, a Home Oxygen Technician met with the daughter to install the equipment before the client returned home. Once home, the Home Oxygen Technician and Respiratory Therapist visited the client again to determine his capability with the portable oxygen cylinders. Though the client was deaf and blind, the communication with the technician was clear and understood: It was determined that the client was not able to change the portable regulator comfortably. The technician quickly alleviated the client and daughter’s disappointment by providing the client with seven regulators at no charge, and the daughter agreed to set up seven cylinders each week.
The technician has keep in constant communication with the client and his daughter and the situation has proven very effective. There have been times when the daughter has been away and not able to make it to the apartment. With a quick call to RANA, they arrange for the technician to set up the cylinders for the week.
The client has been in his home for over a year and through regular communication with RANA remains independent with no concerns.
RANA cares to make a difference. It is not just something we say, it is who we are.
